Getting started

What exactly does SmartMoveMe do?

We help students moving to the UK sort out the practical side of their move: student accommodation, airport transfers, academic support and everyday guidance. We work with a network of trusted UK partners and coordinate everything with you directly, so you have one point of contact from your first question until you have settled in.

Who are your services for?

Mainly students from India and other international students starting undergraduate or postgraduate study in the UK. We also help students already in the UK who are changing cities or need academic support, and parents or guardians who want to stay involved in the planning.

Do I need to use all four services?

No. Many students use just one, usually accommodation or an airport pickup. Others combine services so the timing of everything lines up. You only use what is genuinely useful to you.

Do you help with university applications or visas?

No. We do not handle university applications or admissions, and we do not give immigration advice, which in the UK can only be given by regulated advisers. For visa questions we will point you to official GOV.UK guidance and your university's international student team.

Planning & timing

When should I first get in touch?

As soon as you have a university offer and a rough start date. Good-value rooms near popular campuses are often reserved months before September and January intakes, so an early conversation gives you more choice. Airport pickups and academic support can be arranged much closer to the time.

I'm arriving at short notice. Can you still help?

Often, yes. Late arrivals are common, especially for January starts. Choice of accommodation may be narrower, but partners regularly have last-minute availability, and we can arrange temporary stays while you look for something longer term.

Can I start planning before my visa is confirmed?

Yes. You can ask questions, compare options and shortlist rooms before your visa decision. We always recommend checking the cancellation and refund terms of any booking that depends on your visa before you commit to it.

Costs & payments

Is it free to enquire?

Yes. Messaging us, asking questions and receiving options costs nothing, and you are under no obligation to go ahead with anything we suggest.

How are services paid for?

It depends on the service. Rent and deposits are paid to the accommodation provider under their contract, and partner services such as transfers or tutoring are paid as agreed with that partner. Whatever applies, the price and how to pay are confirmed in writing before you commit.

Will there be any hidden fees?

No. If a SmartMoveMe fee applies to a service, we tell you what it is and what it covers before you agree to anything. If something is not mentioned in writing, you will not be charged for it.

Can my parents pay on my behalf?

Usually, yes. Most providers accept payment from a parent or guardian, and some ask for a guarantor. We will explain what each provider needs so the right person can arrange payment.

Partners & safety

Who are your partners?

Accommodation providers and letting agencies, licensed private hire and transfer operators, and experienced academic tutors across the UK. We only introduce partners we have worked with and checked against our standards.

How do you check the partners you recommend?

We confirm who they are and that they hold any licences their work requires, review the terms students are asked to sign, and ask every student for feedback after a service is delivered. Partners who fall short of our standards are no longer recommended.

What if something goes wrong with a partner's service?

Message us straight away. We will contact the partner, help you understand your options under their terms and work towards a fair outcome. You never have to chase a problem on your own.

Privacy & your data

What happens to the details I send you?

We use them to respond to your enquiry and, with your agreement, share only what is needed with the partners helping you, such as your arrival time with your driver. We never sell your information. Our privacy policy explains everything in full.

Does this website store my information?

No. When you send the enquiry form, your details are emailed securely to our team and you receive a copy; nothing is saved in a database on this website. The arrival checklist saves your progress only in your own browser.

After you arrive

Can I still contact you once I've arrived?

Yes. Most students message us during their first few weeks with questions about transport, bills, registering with a doctor or simply where to buy a winter coat. We are here for as long as you find us useful.

What should I do in an emergency?

If anyone is in danger or seriously unwell, call 999. For urgent medical help that is not life-threatening, call NHS 111. Once you are safe, let us know and we will help with anything practical that follows.

Can you help if I want to move room or city later?

Yes. Whether you are moving into a shared house for your second year or relocating for a placement, we can help you find your next place and arrange the move.
