Verified student rooms, ready when you land.

Why it matters
Housing you can trust from the other side of the world
Choosing a room you've never seen, in a city you've never visited, is one of the most stressful parts of studying abroad. Listings can look perfect online, contract terms are unfamiliar, and it's hard to tell a convenient area from one that adds an hour to every day.
We do the groundwork first. Every room we suggest comes from a partner we know, and we explain the practical details — commute, bills, contract length — before you spend a penny.
Red flags we screen out
- A deposit requested before you've seen a written contract
- A price far below similar rooms in the same area
- A landlord who won't arrange a video viewing
- Pressure to pay today “before someone else does”
Room types
Choose the way you want to live

Shared room
A bedroom shared with one other student. Less common in the UK, but the most affordable option where it's available.
Good for: Tight budgets and students who enjoy company

Private room
Your own bedroom in a shared flat or house, with a shared kitchen, living space and bathroom — the classic UK student set-up.
Good for: Making friends quickly at a sensible price

En-suite room
Your own bedroom and private shower room, with a kitchen shared between a small group. The most popular choice in purpose-built halls.
Good for: Privacy without living completely alone

Studio
A self-contained flat with your own kitchenette and bathroom. The most privacy and the highest price — popular with postgraduates.
Good for: Independent living and quiet study
Our standard
What “verified” means at SmartMoveMe
“Verified” isn't a badge we hand out lightly. Before any room reaches your shortlist, it has to meet all six of these checks.
- Listed by a partner agency or provider we have worked with before
- Landlord or provider identity confirmed
- Real photos or a live video tour before you commit
- Contract terms reviewed with you, line by line, before you sign
- Deposit protection confirmed wherever the law requires it
- Journey time to your campus checked at the hours you'll travel
The search
How we find your room
- 1
Share your brief
Your university, move-in date, budget, preferred room type and anything that matters to you — a quiet building, a short walk, a vegetarian-friendly kitchen.
- 2
Receive a shortlist
We check availability with our partners and send you a short list of rooms that genuinely fit, with honest notes on each.
- 3
View and ask questions
See the room on a video tour, read the contract with us and ask anything. Nothing is booked until you're confident.
- 4
Secure it and move in
You sign and pay the provider directly. We stay on hand until you've collected your keys and settled in.
Before you sign
Five questions worth asking
- 1
Are bills included?
Most purpose-built student accommodation includes energy, water and Wi-Fi in the rent; many private houses don't. If they're extra, ask for a realistic monthly estimate.
- 2
How long is the contract?
Halls often run for 44 or 51 weeks, while private houses are usually 12 months. Make sure the dates match your course — and your plans for the summer.
- 3
How is my deposit protected?
For assured shorthold tenancies in England and Wales, landlords must protect your deposit in a government-approved scheme. Ask which scheme, and keep the certificate.
- 4
Do I need a UK guarantor?
Many landlords ask for one. If you don't have a UK guarantor, options include guarantor services or paying some rent in advance. We'll tell you what each provider accepts.
- 5
How long is the journey to campus?
Check the door-to-door time on foot or by public transport at the time you'd actually travel — a “ten-minute” bus can take thirty at 9am.

FAQs
Accommodation questions
Which area should I live in?
It depends on where your lectures are, your budget and the kind of neighbourhood you like. We look at journey time to campus, how lively or quiet the area is, local shops and how safe it feels after dark, then recommend areas that suit you — not just whatever is available.
Can I see a room before I commit?
Yes. We arrange live video tours wherever possible, so you can see the actual room, kitchen and building rather than marketing photos. If you or a family member are already in the UK, an in-person viewing can often be arranged.
Can I live with friends I've met online?
Absolutely. Tell us how many of you there are and your combined budget. Shared houses and cluster flats in halls can often be booked together if you move quickly.
What if I arrive before my contract starts?
Some providers allow early check-in for a fee. If not, we can help you find a short stay nearby for the gap and arrange your airport pickup to the right address.
Do I pay my rent to SmartMoveMe?
No. Rent and deposits are paid directly to the accommodation provider under their contract. If a SmartMoveMe service fee applies to your search, we'll tell you clearly before you commit.
